FISHES & LOAVES
My group decided to work with a local food buying club in order to devise a strategy that would help them to achieve their goals. Through months of iterations, research, and conceptual modeling we created a plan for forward growth.
Fishes & Loaves is a food buying club in Hazelwood, Pennsylvania. Residents place orders every 2 weeks, and volunteers then collect the orders, purchase the food, and bring it to a central location for residents to meet and pick it up. Since many residents do not have cars, the out of town supermarkets are extremely difficult to access and Fishes and Loaves is their only opportunity to get wholesome food. Fishes and Loaves is even able to partner with Pittsburgh food distributors to keep the prices low.
The best thing about Fishes & Loaves, though, is that they are uniquely positioned for success. They are embedded in the community, with intimate knowledge of their customers, and unlike a food bank, they are self-sustaining; customers are paying members and are also volunteers. But the building blocks laid down by Fishes & Loaves have the potential to make a much larger impact on Hazelwood, and this is the proposed strategy to make that potential a reality.
Our strategy is divided into three parts: Streamline, Expand, and Evolve.
DEVELOPING THE STRATEGY
For 7 weeks we used models, tools, brainstorming, and sketching to develop our strategy for Fishes & Loaves.
